Putting Cassandra in the title felt a bit too… on the nose I suppose.
The last two weeks, hell, the last year, the last decade, have been a trying time to be a USian who remotely cares about her fellow human beings, be they local or international.
The theme for these last two weeks, at least the one I’m focusing on, is undoubtedly Cassandra, the Greek mythological priestess cursed by Apollo for not sleeping with him, to see utterly true prophecies which would never be believed.
The myth rings true for many minorities, turns out it’s easier to explain the benefits the included gain from the minority crushing machine when you’re the one whose exploitation it facilitates.
But we’re here to talk about the news, like the continuing Epstein Files debacle where almost none of the adults in the files face consequences and the victims are slandered and humiliated. It’s almost like it’s a repeating pattern.
But we’ve got more in here, an Al Jazeera Article pushing an antisemetic conspiracy theory (also, no Epstein didn’t almost buy the pentagon), Graham Platner and his little Totenkopf pushing an antisemetic conspiracy theory, Bibi the Butcher and Australia pushing the same antisemetic conspiracy theory.
Then we’ve got yet another politician and supposed communist so wildly out of touch with his own people he managed a Marie Antoinette-ism about showering and my desperate attempt to even explain the random unhinged crap Trump pulled over the last two weeks.
In Hound’s Byte we’ve got the bizarre stuff coming out of Microsoft gaming, aka Xbox, with the flash departure of Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond and the proportion of CoreAI’s Asha Sharma, Discord getting in and out of bed with Persona, itself embedded with Persona and Twitch, yay.
And to continue the Cassandra theme, a fun little exercise in the similarities between the developments and pushes for Crypto, NFTs, Metaverses, DOAs, and with Generative AI. Almost like there’s a recurring theme in the methods fascists and patriarchs use to maintain their power.
Oh and in Pet Play, a fun little story about the Neopet’s TTRPG and its implosion and, yes, once again rather predictably if you even check Geekify’s track record.
But, it’s not all bad news! I go over one of the more fun artistic theories of the past few decades, than Da Vinci herself was the model for Mona Lisa (though I’m being much more overt with my calls of “Egg!” than most) and there’s even a new crested Spinosaurus, Mirabilis, discovered by a Chicago University team led by Paul Sereno
