At 2 am this morning I was laying awake, wracked with period cramps. And yes, in case I need to tell you this, trans women on proper hormone levels can get those, it's fun. I was desperately trying to sleep, and kept setting my phone down in hopes that this time I'd actually get to sleep as my mind raced in circles, another mental health blog post took shape in my brain. But sleep refused me and I opened BlueSky, foolishly hoping for a distraction or a book recommendation, when I instead saw this post at the top of my feed.
It felt at best strange to be seeing this for the first time the morning before such an event... and it had no information, no link to resources or organizers or anything of substance really. And since apparently I've fallen ass first into writing about the nonprofit industrial complex/grift mill, it set off all my red flags.
It took two minutes to find the organizer and I use that term very loosely. John Schwarz. Sorry, "J," pro-tip from a tranny: if you have a name preference, don't ever share the one you don't want to be called.
His bio on The People's Union site (second tip: stop including "The" in your grift organization's name, it makes it more annoying to discuss; I'm also looking at you The Duty Legacy) is long, effusive, and says nothing. Ok not nothing, it shows he has a really creepy fixation on the phrase “Industrial Slave.” What it fails to mention is that "J" is a TikTok and Instagram meditation and mindfulness influencer who hard pivoted into this shtick in January. Kind of an odd jump to suddenly start organizing a global economic strike right? Especially one he said he did not expect to succeed in an interview posted yesterday.
Boycotts are great! When they're organized by the people effected by them, and when they provide alternatives to those who need a service. Look at the actually organized, black boycott of Target after it canceled it's DEI programs. In a single month Target's share price dropped by a 13%, and to add icing on that cake, they're being sued by Florida for supporting queers anyway. For an even better example as it actually effects the man truly holding the reigns of power, look at the Telsa protests. Since the start of 2025 the tesla stock, from which most of Elon Musks’s wealth originates, has drop 25% due to oragnized protests.

The People's Union, however, is a single white man telling people they can do good in the world simply by doing nothing. And people have given him $69,135 so far for telling them that.
John Schwarz and his ilk are why when I spit the word liberal, it's always a condemnation. This is not a man or a "movement" trying to better the world much less help the people being sent to concentration camps under accusation of merely being immigrants by the fascist Musk-Trump administration, the trans women being sent to men's prisons to be raped to death, or the BIPOC and trans people being forced out of their livelihoods. In truth, John is the model of a liberal, reaching across the aisle to work hand in hand with the men and women who have openly called for the murders of my people, because all he can bring himself to care about are prices and some mealy-mouthed tripe about underpaid workers.
I encourage you to search The People’s Union site. Despite being a foundationally about combatting the trump presidency the words fascist, queer, trans, any combination of LGBTQIA+, immigrant, healthcare, nor deportation appear on this site.
No, really, go search it.

Because I told a tiny lie. There is a reference to immigration about a "secure" border and active surveillance of immigrants inside the country. Oh and there is a mention of healthcare. Notably that we must "invest in accessible mental health care[sic], not just crisis intervention" as apparently John doesn’t realize crisis intervention in the US is sending a cop with a gun to do a wellness check and more likely than not shoot someone having the worst day of their life. Oh, did I mention that he also wants AI backed voting systems? No I have no idea what that even means.

Yes, this movement has caught a bunch of headlines, and you know what those headlines are going to say on March 1st?
Best case would be that March 1st is a slow news day and someone points out that global blackout with 750,000 members, made no measurable economic impact because they were too dispersed.

(I kid, just look at the coverage of the State Department wire from Rubio banning trans people with corrected gender markers from getting visas into the US where multiple "respectable news organizations" claim it only effects athletes and still parrot the fascist talking point that we're committing fraud by existing)
Oops, those were all real headlines that John Schwarz doesn’t think matter.
This is not a "grass roots network," it's one mediocre man whose mission statement includes making “billionaires pay their fair share.” Billionaires are not human. One cannot become a billionaire by the sweat of their own brow. The only way one may do so, is by crushing and extracting wealth from everyone. Their fair share may only be paid in blood. John can’t even bring himself to say his movement is opposed to Trump and Musk.
I know it's easier to pretend you can help by getting to do nothing, and you can, but not like this. Not by giving a man who thinks everything was fine 3 months ago $69,135 dollars to set up a website that's already asking for more donations, selling merchandise, and can't even say the word trans women much less acknowledge that there is a genocide against us.
I wonder what was so hard about saying “Yes I’m against Trump and Musk as well as others”?
You, readers, content creators, influencers, if you made it this far, you OWE IT to your audience and yourselves to look into something before you blindly repost it, but more, you owe it to the people who are actually being harmed. If you gave money to this man, shame on you. This much money could have helped so many flee dangerous states, it could have bought goods made by trans people, it could have paid for the DIY hrt for an entire community of trans people, or you could have bought some fucking queer anti-capitalist art or supported someone's patreon or kofi. But instead you gave it to a man to spread awareness that others can give him money.
Fuck you. Pay me! Pay any of the people bellow! Help the people who actually need it not some fucking dude who think AI voting systems, surveilled immigrants, and a political party where sexual assault allegations are seemingly required for advancement belong in this world!
Oh, and call your senators because a bill banning trans women from sports is being heard by the senate today and a version has already been approved by the fascist controlled House.
